Primary Symbiosis
Where digital technology is used to create digital art forms, such as computer animation and graphics.
Secondary Symbiosis
Where digital technology is used to enhance traditional art forms, such as music or film.
Tertiary Symbiosis
Where digital technology is used as a research, support or documentation tool , such as word processing, musical scoring or web based research.

Mutual Symbiosis: To fulfil the mutual model of symbiosis there must be a reciprocal exchange of theory or practice between the symbiotic partners. It is a model of mutualism as both parties benefit from the relationship.
Communal Symbiosis: In a communal symbiotic relationship only one of the parties benefits from the relationship. It could be described as a communal relationship.
Parasitic Symbiosis: In a parasitic symbiosis, one of the symbionts benefits at the expense of another.
